A reflection for Advent through Dignity USA
In this Advent 2024 reflection, I draw connections between the spiritual journey of Advent, the mystical power of the incarnation, and the lived experience of LGBTQ individuals, (particularly trans people!). I share how my own transition became a transformative spiritual journey, deepening my relationships with God and community. I contrast how the church can often fail to recognize the beauty and gifts of queer people with the way many missed the true nature of Jesus' humble birth, highlighting how this parallels the queer experience of often being unseen. In embracing my authentic identity, I also reflect on the broader truth that our unique roles in the world—whether through love, identity, or presence—participate in the divine incarnation. This reflection emphasizes that the power of the incarnation is about transcending binaries, embracing authenticity, and manifesting God's love in the world, especially through the visibility of queer love and identity.

My Journey at the Outreach 2024 Conference: Transgender Catholics & Community Building
Join me as I share my experiences and reflections from the recent Outreach Conference! This is from a zoom discussion where I shared with a LGBTQ Catholic church group.
At the Outreach conference (excerpt from the panel can be found below), I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Maureen Rasmussen, a transwoman and Catholic, and Craig Ford, a moral theologian, moderated by Katie Collins Scott of the National Catholic Reporter. Discover the significance of this panel and hear my personal takeaways, including:
-The profound impact of gathering with other LGBTQ Catholics
-A touching moment with Sister Jeanine Grammick, a pioneering advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in the church
-Insights from the final keynote with Father James Martin and Christopher White on the current state of transgender issues in the Catholic Church
-I also delve into the importance of connecting LGBTQ+ ministries and voices across the country to amplify our message and foster change

What Dignitas Infinita Ignored
Perspectives on LGBTQ Dignity
Dignitas Infinita, the Vatican’s declaration on human dignity released in April 2024, made headlines for its sections condemning “gender theory” and “sex change.” The document was widely criticized by Catholics—transgender and nonbinary faithful, theologians, pastoral workers, family members, and more—not only for what it included, but for what was ignored.
New Ways Ministry hosted a panel conversation about the declaration, its impact now, and how LGBTQ+ Catholics and allies proceed from here, including in view of the Synod on Synodality. The conversation featured theologians M. Therese Lysaught and Craig A. Ford, and transgender Catholic author Maxwell Kuzma. The panel was moderated by Brian Flanagan, Senior Fellow at New Ways Ministry.
