Maxwell Kuzma grew up Catholic, was homeschooled from sixth grade through high school, then went to Franciscan University of Steubenville. After graduating and working in conservative Catholic media for a few years, he chose to enter the secular work force and started his gender transition at the end of 2019 and through 2020, moving to a farm in rural Ohio in 2021.

Since then, he has written about his experiences of coming out as transgender and embracing an LGBTQ-affirming vision of his Catholic faith for the National Catholic Reporter, New Ways Ministry, and Outreach (all of which can be read on the Published Works page of this website). He was also quoted by the New York Times in an article about the Vatican and transgender people.
