Maxwell Anthony Kuzma

Max meeting Pope Francis after a general audience on October 23, 2024 (Rome, the Vatican, Italy).

Maxwell (Max) Kuzma is a transgender man and lifelong Catholic who advocates for LGBTQ inclusion in the church (and he lives on a farm!). He has written about the unique gifts of Queer people and the beauty of diversity in God’s creation for the National Catholic Reporter, Outreach, and New Ways Ministry (all of which can be read on the Published Works page of this website). Max has been quoted by the New York Times and Associated Press in response to political news regarding transgender people as well as Catholic/Vatican news related to transgender people.

On October 23, 2024, Max had the opportunity to join a group of transgender men assembled by Fr. Andrea Conocchia through the Outreach Community to attend a general audience and briefly meet the Pope. Max’s account of this extraordinary meeting, in which he was able to tell the Pope in Spanish “I am a transgender man,” is available to read from The National Catholic Reporter.

If you would like to financially support Max’s writing with a tip, you can do so here (by credit card, cashapp, apple pay, etc).
